The 4-Hour Workweek - Is It Worth Reading?

“The opposite of love is indifference, and the opposite of happiness is boredom” - Timothy Ferriss

This book was my first foray into the world of self help books. I found out about Ferriss by watching
Colin and Samir’s podcast interviewing him. Tim’s demeanor and attitude inspired me to start looking inward and that his words were worth listening to. I was right.

The way in which Tim provides information feels less like he is preaching and more like he is telling it to you straight. He jokes, he curses, but most of all he gives good and useful advice.

If there was one thing I would pull from this book, it would be Ferriss’ application of Pareto’s law or the 80/20 rule. He explicitly states that 80% of outcomes result from 20% of causes. By cutting the unnecessary 80% out of life and focusing on just the 20% that makes you happy and fulfilled, you can remove stress and get more from life.

Speaking of stress, let’s talk about the best quote from the book. The opposite of love is indifference, and the opposite of happiness is boredom. Boredom causes cancer. Boredom causes a fate worse than death. Boredom is what you should be trying to avoid at all costs.

If you are not taking your life into your own hands and doing the things that make you happy, then what are you doing?

This book is the biggest slap in the face to people who say they cant.

It lays out everything that you need in order to be successful. If you read this book I am certain that you will succeed in some way. Whether it be starting an online business, getting a raise, or just wanting to be better the advice in here is worth reading, even if a bit outdated.
