START WITH WHY - The Quintessential Business Book
“People don’t buy WHAT you do, they buy WHY you do it” - Simon Sinek
This book was recommended to me by YouTuber Ruri Ohama in a video about making oodles of money online. I was skeptical at first because the title of the book seemed a bit evangelical. This time I was wrong.
Simon Sinek expertly reveals what makes the biggest companies the biggest companies. It’s not the product or commodity that they sell, its the lifestyle that they sell with it.
He continuously references the cult of Apple and how when people buy Apple products they’re not thinking about the specifications of the product. They’re thinking about Apple’s WHY or their greater purpose.
Individualism, creativity, and elegance are the things that people will feel when they buy an Apple product. As an Apple hater myself, I don’t experience this in the slightest, but I’m not going to go to the competitors because a green bubble straight up lowers your social status.
Isn’t it crazy how owning a piece of hardware legitimately alters your status? So why don’t you create something with the same power? You need to find your why and in order to do so, and in order to find your why, you need to get your golden circle aligned.
The golden circle is the one thing that I would take away from this book. Figuring out WHAT you want is easy, HOW you’re going to do it is a bit harder, but finding WHY you want to do it is the hardest part.
Same applies to a business. Starting with WHY is the best way to get ahead and I will be applying it to my business as much as I can.
